Places to visit in Svalbard and Jan Mayen
Svalbard 2026 field-safety regulation and operator permits apply; some excursions require the Governor’s prior approvals. Polar bear risks, sea ice and weather are serious. Jan Mayen has restricted landings and construction disruptions through 2027/28 and is NOT offered as an activity destination. Svalbard specialist Arctic experiences are centred on Longyearbyen and licensed polar operators. Jan Mayen is not part of a normal bookable island-hopping trip: landings are restricted, advance-authorised and frequently impossible.
